We are very proud of this year’s GCSE students who have again achieved excellent results at The Cowplain School. 55% of students achieved the standard pass (Grade 4) in English and Maths. Other subjects also performed well and we are very pleased that almost a quarter of students obtained the English Baccalaureate (EBACC), achieving good grades in Maths, English, 2 x Sciences, Humanities and Languages, placing the school amongst the best performing for the EBACC in the local area.
Other high attaining subjects included Drama, ICT, Business studies, Geography, and Music. Notable individual successes included Natalie Benham, who achieved 5 x Grade 9s as well as 3 x Grade 8s and Alex Burr, who achieved 3 x Grade 9s and 4 x Grade 8s; in total, our students achieved over 20 Grade 9 or equivalent qualifications and the proportion of grades 7-9 improved considerably since last year.
Commenting on the results, Ian Gates, Headteacher, congratulated all the students, teachers, and parents who had contributed to the success of Year 11. He said, ‘The results demonstrate the culture of success at the school, where we challenge every student to achieve as highly as possible. Every indication is that this year group have made tremendous progress since they joined us in Year 7 and are now set up to move on to the next stage of their lives. Our recent OFSTED inspection recognised that, at The Cowplain School, individuals matter, and it is our relentless focus on nurturing and developing every individual’s talents that have enabled many to achieve extremely well.'
